Last Exit to Normal by Michael Harmon

last exitKnopf, 2008     ISBN: 0375940987

Ben has been acting out since his father came out and his mother left three years ago. To get him away from bad influences, his father and stepfather have taken him to live in a small town in Montana. He still has angry outbursts, and acts irresponsibly at times, but he begins to make peace with his situation and to take responsibility for his life. By showing concern for the kid next door who seems to have a secret problem, Ben begins to seem less self-centered.

Ben is not a wholly believable character, and none of the other characters are well-fleshed out, but this was still an enjoyable read.
